Chocolate Chip Cookies
- 1/2 cup butter or shortening
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 cup flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup chopped nuts
- 1 cup chocolate chips
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Beat butter, egg, sugars, and vanilla together until light and fluffy.
- Add dry ingredients, blend well.
- Stir in nuts and chips.
- Drop from teaspoon onto ungreased baking sheet, 2 inches apart.
- Bake for 8-10 minutes.
- Makes slightly less than four dozen cookies.
For Oatmeal cookies, follow above recipe but with 2/3 cup flour instead of 1 cup, and omit nuts. Add 1 cup of quick-cooking rolled oats instead, at the same time as the chocolate chips.
For Coconut cookies, follow above recipe, adding 1 cup of fine-grated coconut in place of chopped nuts.
